Prenuptial Agreements in Kinnelon, NJ

Premarital agreements (also called prenuptial agreements) are a common legal step taken before marriage. A prenuptial agreement establishes the property and financial rights of each spouse in the event of a divorce. So while no one is thinking about a divorce when they get married, about one half of all marriages in America end up in divorce proceedings. So it’s often prudent to at least consider a prenuptial agreement. prenuptial agreement are often used to protect the assets of wealthy spouses but also can protect family businesses and serve other important functions.

How much does your firm charge for a prenuptial agreement?

It depends on your particular situation.  Generally, if I draft the prenuptial agreement, it will be about 2.5 times more expensive than if I was helping you review your prenuptial agreement.  Every prenuptial agreement negotiation requires 2 attorneys – a drafting attorney and a reviewing attorney.  Depending on our first phone conversation and what I perceive to be the complexity of your case, I can quote you a likely price by the end of the consultation.  Call me and I will help you plan the rest of your life with your fiancé and give you a flat-fee price.

What is a flat-fee price and how is it different from what other attorneys charge?

Most lawyers charge on an hourly basis.  That is, they take a retainer (deposit) from you and they subtract from that retainer their hourly fee for each hour they do legal work for you.  For lawyers in the Kinnelon area, Morris County and Northern New Jersey, hourly rates are generally anywhere from $250.00 – $450.00 per hour. As you can see, this will rack up very quickly.

Attorney Marc P. Feldman does not bill hourly for prenuptial and premarital agreements.  I will quote you a fixed price up-front.

Why would your law firm charge a fixed price while most other law firms charge hourly?

I have always felt that people should know how much they’re paying for a service before making the decision to engage that service.  Why shouldn’t legal services be the same way?  Billing on a fixed price helps both the law firm and the clients. The clients know what they’re being charged up-front and the law firm never has to waste time billing and asking clients for retainers or unpaid legal fees.  Since I save time by not having to do hourly billing, that cost savings is transferred to my clients.
